From Burnout to Breakthrough: How to Protect Your Creative Spark

Updated: May 3

The first time I experienced burnout was five or six years ago. It was uncomfortable, but not unbearable. The second time, though? It felt like my brain was on fire.

I couldn’t find the strength to write a single word, let alone a sentence. There were many reasons, but the main one was simple: I was drained.

People were taking advantage of my emotions, and I let them. I didn’t feel like myself, so in return, I wrote nothing.

WHEN GLITTER TURNS TO ASHES

Burnout doesn’t just happen to writers. Dancers, singers, actors, models, painters, directors—creatives of all kinds go through it.

But how do you recover when the pressure doesn’t let up?

After I recovered, I knew I had to talk about this.

If you’ve read my post How to Choose a Memorable Aesthetic for Your Brand, you know I’m a big believer in protecting your mental space. Seeing a specialist helped me realize something important: not everyone in your life is there to help you grow.

DRAINED DRY

Having the wrong people around is like inviting guests into your house, only for them to wreck it. Scratched-up floors. Broken windows. Leaking pipes. You thought they’d respect the space, but instead, they made a mess while laughing at your pain.

You might be asking. “Why am I talking about this?”

Because it matters—especially for us artists. We create from a place of vulnerability.

It’s beautiful to connect with people through your art, even if they’re just strangers. But what about the people you do know? The ones you see every day, whether it’s through work, friendship, or family?

As a creator, you have to be careful. Not everyone has your best interests at heart.

And the people closest to you are the ones draining your spark.

DANGER IS KNOCKING

Unfortunately, we’ve all seen it happen. A fellow artist—or maybe even a favorite one—looses the fight. We see them try their hardest, either on a stage, a screen, or in everyday life.

And we see the betrayal in real time—the trust shattered by deception.

I can’t bear to see someone shine so brightly, only to lose their sparkle because they were poisoned by callousness.

That’s why I’m here. To share what I’ve learned. To help you protect your light before it fades.

PROTECTING YOUR PEACE

I know this post was heavy, but I’m only looking out for you. History has a way of repeating itself when no one teaches you to break the cycle. You can still share your craft with others. Like my writings—I’ll never get enough of sharing them.

I told you guys I wanted to be a writing tutor, but I guess that’s not all I want to do… Because I’m here teaching you.

And this is what I’m going to tell you: share your art, but also listen to your intuition.

Your intuition has a lot to say.
